So I had meh first bite of Turkish Delight. I feel all fanceh and stuffs, being brave and trying out new things.
And.. OKAY SO MY LIFE IS MISERABLY BORING SO SOMETHING LIKE THIS IS A BIG DEALL!
..yes, I'm pathetic. But it's okay, because YOU read this blog so at least I'm not alone in my patheticness.
Either way, I'm obsessed with food, I'm the kid who ate all her veggies and watches cooking shows, so don't be surprised. I'm surprised, actually, that I'm not overweight or as chubby as I should be, seeing how much I snack.
In fact, J (my lovely asian ex-girl-crush) says it's funny, she always finds me snacking and she's noticed I always have food with me or I find a way to get some.
I brought cheerios and spanish food to a bookstore once, people... I'm not ashamed.
so.. Back on topic? >.<
Turkish delight or Lokum is a family of confections based on a gel of starch and sugar. Premium varieties consist largely of chopped dates, pistachios and hazelnuts or walnuts bound by the gel; the cheapest are mostly gel, generally flavored with rosewater, mastic, or lemon. The confection is often packaged and eaten in small cubes dusted with icing sugar, copra, or powdered cream of Tartar, to prevent clinging. Other common types include such flavors as cinnamon and mint. In the production process, soapwort may be used as an emulsifying additive.
Also, most of you don't care, but for you foodies out there I give you my critique:
7.5/10
Very sweet, light fruity and flowery hints of flavor.
It's nicely powdered on the outside. The whole thing has a sort of gummy texture to it, like the inside of a jellybean.
There shall be more of these critiques.
"The Queen let another drop fall from her bottle on to the snow, and instantly there appeared a round box, tied with green silk ribbon, which, when opened, turned out to contain several pounds of the best Turkish Delight. Each piece was sweet and light to the very centre and Edmund had never tasted anything more delicious. … At first Edmund tried to remember that it is rude to speak with one's mouth full, but soon he forgot about this and thought only of trying to shovel down as much Turkish Delight as he could, and the more he ate the more he wanted to eat … .
At last the Turkish Delight was all finished and Edmund was looking very hard at the empty box and wishing that she would ask him whether he would like some more. Probably the Queen knew quite well what he was thinking; for she knew, though Edmund did not, that this was enchanted Turkish Delight and that anyone who had once tasted it would want more and more of it, and would even, if they were allowed, go on eating it till they killed themselves."
